lady wakes me with her sandy tongue
but i don't know how to lift myself up
without dragging around these old roots with me
stemming from below my own two feet
oh, my old feet.
the old woman next door always outdoors
her empty watering can, her yellow yard
she told me growing old was like a steady stream
no one knows where the current goes
oh, it just goes.
and lady sleeps and sleeps the days away
unaware of the calendar year or the white fur tickling her perky ears
and these vines intertwine my legs with the floor beneath til the ceiling's all my eyes can see
and grass starts to grow from my weary chest
as if it knew there was soil in my breast
and i hear mandolins and xylophones begging to make louder sounds
lady and the old woman are standing on my head
watering weed stems on my neck
and if i cry it will only help them grow
so i don't.
if i could recommend one person in vermont it would be maryse. she has such a beautiful soulful voice..i only hope she get's as much recognition as she deserves. the light and the dark
